Description
65×24 ("65 by 24") is a panoramic camera app for iPhone, which lets photographers compose and shoot in the iconic 65:24 (2.71) aspect ratio first pioneered by the Hasselblad X-Pan.Features
- An interface designed from the ground up for composing panoramic images in a single shot
- A sleek and familiar camera interface: tap to focus, quickly switch between your iPhone's cameras, dedicated control for exposure compensation, grid overlay to assist composition.
- Full support for Camera Control on iOS 16, with an immersive fullscreen shooting experience that makes shooting with your iPhone feel like a dedicated camera.
- Full resolution capture support on iPhone cameras with 48MP sensors
- Deep settings that let you customize the output and interface of the camera
- Advanced processing options for you to design the perfect look for your photographs. The unprocessed shot can be saved alongside the final photograph.
- The option to save photos with a frame (1:1, 4:3, or 16:9), to prevent the awkward cropping on many social media platforms
- Saves as HEIC (smaller file size, higher quality) or JPEG (better compatibility)
- No subscription: a single in-app purchase gets you all the features and all future updates on all your devices.
- Absolutely no tracking, third party libraries, data collection or transmission.
Development History
65×24 was inspired by the X-Pan, an iconic film camera released by Hasselblad in 1998 that shot 65mm by 24mm panoramas on standard 35mm film. Today, this out of production (not to mention fragile!) camera resells for many thousands of dollars. Additionally, while shooting film is fun, it comes at a cost and with many constraints.A huge fan of the XPan, I wanted to build a photography app designed from the ground up to compose and shoot in the 65:24 aspect ratio using the camera always in my pocket: iPhone.
Starting with a simple functional prototype, I put 65×24 through its paces over the course of a year by shooting in the US, France, Japan, Madagascar, and Finland. Eager early users all around the world provided invaluable feedback. We fixed bugs, optimized performance, and added features large and small to realize an ideal reimagination of what a snapshot panoramic camera could be in the age of smartphone photography.
Today, the app is a stable piece of software that taps into the iPhone's pro camera capabilities (such as Camera Control, and 48 MP capture), and there's a lot more features coming!

"A unique, simple, yet complete widescreen camera app [...] I immediately was impressed at how simple yet effective the app was. Very simple, but elegant UI for easy navigation, and the camera app gives pleasing results. Truly a one of a kind camera app that I will definitely keep on my phone and use."
